Al
Petteway & Amy White

AL PETTEWAY & AMY WHITE perform an exciting blend of contemporary,
Celtic-influenced, original and traditional instrumental music on
acoustic guitars, mandolin, piano, Irish bouzouki, vocals and world
percussion. Their signature sound is often heard on NPR and is featured
in a number of movies and documentaries. During their live shows, this
husband and wife team captures the hearts of their audiences with
dynamic instrumental duos, colorful stories about the places and events
that inspired their music from the Appalchian region of the USA to
Celtic lands of Scotland and Ireland.
Al
& Amy first began performing and recording together as a duo in
1995 and proceeded to win the 1995 Washington Area Music Association
Award (WAMMIE) for "Best New Artist." Since then, they have become one
of the most respected and well-liked acts in the acoustic music scene.
They were Artists in Residence at the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage
and have performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the
country.
Al
Petteway & Amy White have
released an impressive collection of recordings both as Al Petteway
(soloist) and as duo on the Maggie's Music label, winning many awards
from the Washington Area Music Association including the WAMMIE for
best New Age Recording in 2000; and several awards from the Maryland
State Arts Council for composition and performance. Between them, they
won a grand total of fifty Wammie awards in the Celtic, Folk, and New
Age categories. They have also won an "Indie" and a "Grammy." Currently
they reside in Asheville, North Carolina. A
hot bed of Appalachian and Celtic-roots musicians, their new home base
captures their creative flair with influences and folklore of the
Appalachian music.
"Al
Petteway and Amy White are not only really and truly in
love with each other - an energy that ricochets between
them during their performances - they're also in love
with creating their caffeinated, jazz-spiked acoustic
brew."
